Pack | Ultimate Packing list for trekking (Southeast Asia)

Once again, every one will pack differently because of how sweaty they get, how dirty they can tolerate to be, whether there is a swimming hole, or how comfortable they want to be. I personally will wear the same trekking clothes every single day because I enjoy the end result of seeing how dirty everything gets. The key thing to remember when you are trekking is the lighter the better, so less is always better. But these are the items people often forget:

Headlamp is key once the sun goes down

Base layers for anything above 3000masl. They are small to pack and keep you warm.

Reusable water bottle. I would recommend a collapsible one so it is lightweight.

Water filter though most mountains have fresh spring water safe for drinking.

Second pair of footwear, flip flops/things, to walk around camp with.

Sun protection - sunscreen, long sleeve breathable shirt, and a hat

And don’t forget about your lips getting sunburnt or windburnt.

For a 3 day 2 night trip up Rinjani 3600masl at Senaru Crater Rim, this is what I pack into my 20L backpack:

  • Base layers and oversized shirt to sleep in

  • Swimmers and 3 days with of undies and spare socks

  • Headlamp

  • Sarong

  • Toiletries minimised to: face soap, face moisturiser, toothbrush, and toothpaste

  • Beanie

  • Make my own reusable wet wipes

  • Rain jacket

  • Collapsible water bottle

  • Earthrunner sandals

  • Travel pillow that goes everywhere with me because I have a bad neck

  • In addition to what I am wearing (head to toe) - bucket hat, easy accessible sun cream, oversized T, long sleeve T, baggy pants, knee brace, compression socks, high top shoes.
