I have been travelling since 2006 and I have travelled heavy and light, long-term to just overnights. The below are the brands that I love, all of which help me travel low waste and most of which give back in one way or another. I have kept the items to mostly generics as each and every one of us have our own fashion styles.

Side note: Use what you have. The gear that you have at home is the best gear that you have. That is the most sustainable option. Aside from Grayl filter bottle, there really is no need to make any pre-trip purchases, as we all have an excess of everything in our homes.

The following are things I currently own or will I would buy once my gear breaks:

Low-Waste travel essentials

  • Grayl filter bottle

  • Ocean Bottle or Miir thermal bottles with replaceable spare parts

  • Hydrapak 1L collapsible water bottle

  • Hunu collapsible cup with straw

  • Pockeat food bags for takeaway

  • Any cotton tote bag that you have been given over the years

Low-Waste Toiletries

Bags

  • Baboon to the Moon 40L duffel - the best feature about this duffel is easy to remove straps for check-in, internal side pockets, and a huge opening compared to top-loading backpack with no real way to securely lock your bags completely and waterproof

  • GotBag Rolltop Small backpack - made from ocean plastic and waterproof for all electronics

  • Matador FreeRain packable and waterproof

Footwear

  • Earthrunner sandals for rainy days and secondary pair for trekking through water. And they keep you grounded and connected to Earth

  • Vivobarefoot shoes for daily wear and for trekking

  • Nisolo boots for daily wear, one of the most sustainable and transparent brands

  • Bangs shoes for daily wear and for trekking - supports entrepreneurs globally

Clothes

For my next lap around the sun, I will not be buying any more clothes unless it is second hand. I have an excess of t-shirts that I need to get through. Please find good causes to donate your clothes directly to before buying new clothes
